Who are the Friends of Buenos Aires NWR?
Who are the Friends....
The Friends are a group of citizens committed to supporting the mission of preserving and perpetuating the wildlife and wild lands that are embraced by Buenos Aires National Wildlife Refuge. Over the years, we have provided workshops, environmental education programs for school kids and other events.
For the next couple of years, we are working on a habitat improvement program.
The Friends are coordinating with area volunteers and conservation groups to remove old barbed-wire fence that inhibits the free movement of wildlife. When the Refuge was formed in 1985, there was 200 miles of fence and now there are “only” 40 miles. Contact Reta or Rob Rutledge if you would like to be involved in this undertaking. It is very rewarding and unlike invasive plants, the fence never comes back.
